The 2012 Camaro ZL1: a new legend that offers incomparable power, performance, and speed
Everything about the new Camaro ZL1 was created for two things: speed and power. The goal of the Camaro ZL1, like its original 1969 model, is to be legendary. The engine is a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8 that produces an impressive 550-horsepower and 550 pounds-feet of torque. Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar radial tires are specific to the ZL1 and complete an overall extremely lightweight wheel-and-tire package. The ZL1 easily accelerates from 0 to 60 in under four seconds flat and even more impressively covers a quarter mile in 12 seconds. The massive rotors measure 14.6 inches in the front and 14.4 inches in the rear and serve as the center piece for the powerful breaking system. Drivers have the option between manual and automatic transmissions. The automatic Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed transmission comes standard with three modes: Drive, Sport, and Manual. Drive mode allows second-gear starts and quick upshifts to conserve fuel economy. The Sport mode has first-gear starts, aggressive gear changes, and shifts delayed to higher rpm. Finally Manual mode does not shift unless the driver commands it to and gear changes are altered to go as fast as possible for maximum acceleration.
Phoenix Chevy Camaro drivers will also appreciate the standard Performance Traction Management system that ensures optimal launch performance by monitoring the engine torque in manually-equipped models. The PTM system has five available traction modes: wet, dry, sport with or without stability control, and race-driving conditions. Each mode varies the traction and suspension as needed per the specified environment.
The new Camaro ZL1 sets itself apart from regular Camaro’s with a look that is not only stylish but also adds to the cars speed and efficiency. The front has brake-cooling ducts, a large splitter, and a wide-mouth intake. The hood is aluminum with a carbon-fiber center, which according to Arizona Chevrolet, helps downforce. The rear has an impossibly distinctive spoiler and quad exhaust finishers that feature a flap that reduces pressure and opens at high engine speeds. Inside the upgrades for the 2012 include alloy pedal covers, a head-up display, and insignias for the headrests and door sills. Top of the line 245-Watts Boston Acoustics Premium Nine-Speaker Sound System comes standard along with Sirius XM radio.
The 2012 Camaro ZL1 has definitely kept with its legendary image and performance and is a must drive for any performance car lover. The Camaro ZL1 is now available at Freeway Chevrolet, come down for a test drive today!
