Simple summer car maintenance tips

With temperatures in the Valley hitting highs of over 120 degrees, it is vital to keep up on maintenance of your vehicle, especially if it is parked outside. Here are ten simple tips to ensure your car stays in tip top condition over the summer and runs seamlessly during summer road trips. Don’t forget to schedule your next Chevrolet service appointment!

#1) Check your oil and oil filter: you should change your oil about every 3,000 miles

#2) Change the air filter: Changing the air filter can also increase fuel efficiency by ten percent.

#3) Take Care of your battery:  Keeping your battery clean will maximize performance and longevity.

#4) Maintain your air conditioning:  Air conditioning problems are usually caused by a lack of refrigerant, which is itself usually caused by a leak in the system.

#5) Check your tires: AZ Foothills Magazine recommends checking your tires once the temperatures hit above 100. The tires are one of the most overlooked yet basic and crucial components of routine maintenance, checking your tires is important because an under-inflated, over-inflated, worn down or misaligned tire can be extremely dangerous, particularly in the hot summer weather when the tire’s psi reacts to the rising external temperature

#6) De-winterize your car: make sure you have all season tires, and all fluids are at the right levels. Most mechanics will do this for free if you take your car in for an oil change.

#7) Check the coolant and radiator: speaking of checking fluids, make sure to flush your radiator once every two years.

#8) Replace wind-shield wipers: this is especially important for Phoenix drivers since we often get summer monsoons.

#9) Check hoses and belts: You do not want any part of this system to malfunction on the road, as your car will quickly overheat.  Check hoses and belts for cracks and excessive wear and tear.

#10) Check Your Brakes:  Brakes are the most important safety feature on a car.  This is especially important to keep in mind before taking any road trips this summer.
