2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Since the name was first used in earnest in 1999, the Chevrolet Silverado has proudly carried its badge to the top of the pickup truck market.  With both light duty and heavy duty variants spanning more than 15 model years, the 2014 Chevy Silverado represents the first major redesign for GM’s workhorse.

Although details remain somewhat scarce, the Silverado’s December debut revealed a retooled exterior which evokes images of tank-like toughness.  Although images of the pickup are simple enough to uncover, some of its best features may not become apparent until the Silverado arrives at Arizona Chevy dealers later this year.

Beneath its rugged visage, the new Silverado is equal parts beauty and brawn.  Three engine options will be available at the outset, including a 5.3-liter EcoTec V-8 that couples 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque with eye-popping 23 miles per gallon (22 with 4WD) highway fuel efficiency.  GM boasts 11,500 pounds of towing capacity for the 2WD double -cab version to accompany just over 2,000 pounds of payload capacity, as reported by Popular Mechanics.

The Silverado’s best-in-class towing package will include Trailer Sway Control and Chevrolet’s StabiliTrak systems which automatically reduce engine power and apply the brake when the sensors detect sway.  Auto Grade Braking will monitor inclines and adjust the transmission to ensure control.  Furthermore, an available rear-view camera will make lining up the trailer hitch simpler than ever and removing a common frustration for haulers.

The Silverado’s softer side includes a redesigned interior featuring Chevrolet’s MyLink touch-screen multimedia system, streaming stereo, Bluetooth capability, and support for iPods and iPhones.  Even Pandora Radio is an option, showing just how far the pickup has come from its function-over-form approach in years past.

As more details surface, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is sure to continue to impress.  If you would like to learn more about the new Silverado, want to try out the 2013 version, or have questions about any of Chevrolet’s other autos, contact Freeway Chevrolet.
