2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51

The Chevrolet Corvette Z51 has won numerous accolades since its introduction earlier this year. Its most prominent award has been bestowed upon it from Road & Track, being named the magazine’s Performance Car of the Year for 2014.

The Chevy Corvette is a staple of American performance. The latest iteration of Chevrolet’s sports car, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51, packs performance into an unheard of affordable package.

The new LT1 6.2-liter V-8 engine produces a sporty 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque with the optional Sport package. A seven-speed manual transmission is standard, with a six-speed paddle-shifted automatic available on the option’s list.

What makes the Corvette such a wonderfully balanced car, in both performance and price, is its ability to compete on the track with cars $30,000 more expensive. At Road & Track, the Corvette won out against competitors like the Audi R8 V10 Plus, Porsche Cayman S, and Ford Fiesta ST.

“It’s the most capability that any manufacturer has ever delivered for this money, it’s rewarding to drive for everyone from novice to seasoned racer, and it is, definitely and deservedly, the Road & Track Performance Car of the Year,” wrote automotive scribe Jack Baruth.

With a vastly improved interior that can now compete with higher-priced competitors, Chevrolet wasted no effort in making the Corvette Z51 an everyman’s sports car.

It’s important to General Motors as its new flagship vehicle. The Corvette has been GM’s test bed for numerous new technologies and equipment long before they trickle down to other GM products. It’s performance alone puts it in a class that outstrips its price.

With the Road & Track award now lining the shelf, the Corvette Z51 has earned its place in amongst its rivals as an equal. No other car on the market today can offer what the Corvette does for the price—and that is worthy of many awards. For more information and a test drive, visit your Freeway Chevy dealership today.
