Chevy Designers Given Blank Canvas for EV Bolt

Unique Proportion Provides Solid Stance

When the Chevrolet execs told designers they had complete freedom to design a cutting edge electric vehicle, the artists and engineers took them at their word. “We were given a blank canvas – a rare opportunity with a unique platform to recast EV design for customers across the spectrum,” according to Chevy’s managing director of design, Stuart Norris. “The team answered the challenge with a progressive design distinguished by dramatic graphics and exceptional passenger space.” With a long 102.4-inch wheel base and wide stance, the Bolt has an aggressive look on the highway. The Chevrolet Bolt will be going into production this year and arriving at Freeway Chevrolet in the late fall.

Smart Design Provides Loads of Passenger Room

With a flat battery pack, there is plenty of room in the rear seat for long legs, crucial on road trips with older kids or adults. “The flat-pack orientation offered the flexibility to make the most of the proportions while creating a clean, sculpted design,” Norris said. “This really opened up the interior and created a fantastic view from every seating position.” Along with seating for five passengers, the new Bolt has 16.9 cubic feet of cargo room, which is plenty for hauling groceries, luggage or sports equipment.

Huge Windows Produce a Greenhouse Effect

Unlike the greenhouse effect that is responsible for depleting the ozone, the large windows of the Bolt provide a view similar to sitting inside a greenhouse. The rear window goes all the way down to the license plate and a sharply inclined windshield delivers not only an excellent view but adds to the sporty styling of the vehicle. The combination of natural light with a pleasing choice of color selections on the interior means the Chevrolet Bolt will have an open passenger environment that makes the vehicle seem much bigger than its actual size.

“The Bolt EV’s design elements are designed for everyday life and the space inside accommodates it all, whether you and your friends go shopping for the day or take off for the weekend,” Norris continued. “Inside and out, this game-changing vehicle makes a dramatic statement with a distinctive identity that can only be a Chevy and challenges expectations for what an affordable EV can offer.”

Extended Range, Low Final Price Make Bolt Attractive

With an estimated 200 mile range and a price below $30,000 after federal tax credits, the Bolt will clear two important hurdles that have kept electric vehicle sales low. With plenty of mileage for the average commuter between charges, the Bolt removes the fear that you’ll be stranded somewhere with no power. Stay tuned to Freeway Chevrolet for more news on when the first Bolt is set to hit the showroom.
