Special Packages Popular With Young Customers

Fresh on the heels of a number of special packages for the Silverado in 2016, Chevy announced that the Equinox and Traverse SUVs will be receiving special treatment in 2017. Even though the midsize SUV continues to be a hot property for Chevy, with sales constantly increasing, the lure of special paint jobs, accessories, trim and badging is often a great way to bring new customers to the fold. The special edition Silverado, for example, sells three times as fast as other trucks and frequently to young consumers. Equinox Choice as Plain as Black and White

The 2017 Equinox is being offered in both a Midnight and Sport special edition. As you might guess, the Midnight package includes a Mosaic Black Metallic paint job. The Sport model is offered in Summit White. Both of these packages come on the upscale LT model with the convenience package. Both the Midnight and Sport are equipped with black grilles, including the iconic bowtie logo on the front. They also have 18-inch black aluminum rims, leather seats in black with perforations for breathability, a memory setting for the driver power seat, black mirror facings and black roof rack. “Special Editions resonate with buyers, offering a unique package with unique looks,” according to Chevy SUV manager Betsy Flagg. “We’ve already seen a strong interest with the Trax Midnight Edition when we announced production last December. We anticipate customers will strongly like the looks of the new Equinox Midnight and Sport editions and Traverse Graphite Edition.”

Traverse Graphite Edition Comes on 2LT Model

If you want the special touches that come on the Traverse Graphite edition, you need to start with the 2LT trim package. The Graphite model comes with a choice of paint colors, including Mosaic Black Metallic, Siren Red Tintcoat, Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, and Tungsten Metallic. The mid-size SUV is also decked out with Dark Charcoal 20-inch wheels, the black Chevy bowtie, dual exhaust and an integrated step. “Special Editions give consumers an opportunity to buy something outside of the mainstream trim designation,” according to Karl Brauer, Kelley Blue Book’s director of auto industry insight. “This lets them spend a little more for a unique model, one that often provides a higher resale value when it’s time to sell or trade the vehicle for their next purchase.” The special editions are expected to sell quickly, so get your name in at Freeway Chevrolet so the sales staff can notify you when one is on the lot.

Small SUV Looking to Dominate Market

Motivated by selling more than 63,000 Trax last year, Chevy has upped the ante for 2017 with design improvements and a richer interior in the hopes the small SUV will go from second place to first in category sales. “In the fastest-growing segment, Chevrolet Trax’s momentum is sure to continue with great design enhancements, premium details and the latest technologies,” according to Chevy director of marketing Steve Majoros. “Features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and four new active safety features offer customers more than most competitors – and at an entry-level price.” The new Trax will have a starting price tag of $21,895 when it arrives in the Freeway Chevrolet showroom this fall.

Trax Drawing New Customers, Mostly Female

Of all the people who have bought a Chevy Trax since its inception in 2012, the majority have traded in something other than a Chevrolet. In addition, more than 60 percent of Trax buyers are female, creating a demographic double-dip that is pleasing to Chevy executives. “With the Colorado and Trax, Chevrolet and our dealers are able to offer brand-new entries in fast-growing segments, which helps bring new customers to Chevrolet,” Majoro said. “And with other new vehicles such as the Cruze Hatchback and Bolt EV, we will continue to attract new customers to the Chevrolet franchise and continue to grow market share, as we did in 2015.”

New Interior Design Provides Controls at a Touch

The new upscale interior design of the Chevy Trax features a more natural flow that starts with the dashboard and continues through the instrument panel and console. The 7-inch color touchscreen infotainment system is new, providing simple access to control your music and hands-free communication, along with turning your new Trax into a Wi-Fi hotspot. A new instrument display shows vital vehicle information in both analog and digital formats. New owners will appreciate the use of upscale materials and attention to detail. “Customers will really notice the elevation in the Trax’s interior design and attention to detail,” according to designer Steve Kim. “It’s an environment that transcends segment boundaries, offering rich, premium appointments and seamless integration of the technologies they rely on most.”

Popular Turbocharged Engine Returns

No improvement was needed for the popular Trax 1.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, which puts out a pretty healthy 138 horsepower for a small vehicle. It’s paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission to deliver an estimated 33 mpg on the highway.
